Aaliyah El-Amin

Aaliyah El-Amin is a lecturer on education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she also serves as faculty co-chair of the Identity, Power, and Justice in Education concentration. Her research and teaching focus on Black education, the development of critical consciousness, liberatory and social justice schooling, critical pedagogy, and qualitative research methods, with an emphasis on equipping educators and students to disrupt systems of oppression.

El-Amin is a co-author of _Educating for Justice: Schoolwide Strategies to Prepare Students to Recognize, Analyze, and Challenge Inequity_ (ASCD, 2025), alongside Scott Seider and Julia Bott, a schoolwide roadmap for justice-centered, equity-focused K–12 practice. She is also the author of the article “Critical Consciousness: A Key to Student Achievement” (2017). A former elementary classroom teacher and instructional specialist, she has held roles including school instructional facilitator/Instructional Dean in Atlanta, Georgia, executive director of Teach For America in Charlotte, North Carolina, and interim vice president of program and innovation for the Black Teacher Collaborative.
