Adrian Bethune
Adrian Bethune is a UK-based primary school teacher, wellbeing educator, and founder of Teachappy, an organisation focused on promoting happiness and wellbeing in schools. After working in the music industry, he retrained as a primary teacher in 2010 and has since taught part-time in schools in Aylesbury and Hertfordshire, while developing evidence-based approaches to pupil and teacher wellbeing. His work in schools has been recognised with a “Happy Hero” medal awarded by Lord Richard Layard at the House of Lords in 2012 for contributions to wellbeing in education, and invitations to speak at events such as Action for Happiness’s Creating a Happier World alongside the Dalai Lama.
Bethune is the author of Wellbeing in the Primary Classroom: A Practical Guide to Teaching Happiness (Bloomsbury, first edition 2018; second edition 2023), which won a Teach Primary Award for Wellbeing, and co-author of A Little Guide for Teachers: Teacher Wellbeing and Self-care with Emma Kell (SAGE, 2020). He is also lead author of the Oxford International Curriculum for Wellbeing (Oxford University Press, 2021) and serves in roles including associate lecturer at Oxford Brookes University, Deputy Chair of the Well Schools strategic board, and wellbeing advisor
