Alesia Moldavan

Alesia Mickle Moldavan is an associate professor of elementary mathematics and science education in the College of Education at Georgia Southern University, where she teaches courses in elementary mathematics and science methods and mentors future educators. She holds a B.S.Ed. in Mathematics Education from the University of Georgia, an M.Ed. in Mathematics Education from Georgia State University, and a Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning/Mathematics Education from Georgia State University. Her earlier career includes classroom experience as a mathematics teacher in diverse Title I school settings, as well as work in STEM enrichment and professional development focused on technology, robotics, and ethnomathematics.

Moldavan’s research centers on equity-focused and culturally responsive mathematics and science teaching, asset-based pedagogy, and the use of digital tools and educational technology in teacher preparation, including work on generative AI, productive struggle, and STEM justice-oriented advocacy. She is the coauthor of Young Scientists in Action: Building Critical Thinkers for a Better World, which supports educators in designing phenomenon-based, community-focused science instruction that helps elementary students connect scientific concepts with real-world issues and social change.
