Alice Faye Duncan

Alice Faye Duncan is a Memphis-based children’s author, school librarian, and National Board Library Media Specialist. She earned a B.A. from the University of Memphis and an M.L.S. from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and spent about 30 years as a school librarian in Memphis while writing picture books for young readers.

Her books include A Song for Gwendolyn Brooks, a picture-book biography of the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, as well as Opal Lee and What It Means to Be Free, Memphis, Martin, and the Mountaintop, Yellow Dog Blues, and Traveling Shoes—The Willye White Story. Duncan’s work is widely noted for its lyrical language and for focusing on historical subjects and stories for children.
