Alice Udvari-Solner

Alice Udvari-Solner is an educator and national consultant in inclusive education, known for her work on transforming general education classrooms to support diverse learners. She has held a long-term appointment in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she has prepared preservice teachers for inclusive settings through graduate and undergraduate courses integral to elementary, secondary, and special education teacher certification programs. Her teaching and research emphasize Universal Design for Learning, differentiation, assistive technologies, collaborative teamwork among educators and paraprofessionals, and systems change to advance inclusive schooling.

Udvari-Solner is the co-author of Joyful Learning: Active and Collaborative Strategies for Inclusive Classrooms (2nd ed., Corwin, 2017), written with Paula Kluth, a widely used resource on active and collaborative learning in inclusive settings. Her research includes the development of the Universal Design Process for Differentiation, a co-planning method for designing responsive strategies for diverse learners, and she has contributed numerous journal articles and chapters to books such as Leading Inclusive Schools, Educating Students With Severe and Multiple Disabilities: A Collaborative Approach, Creating the Inclusive School, Inclusive Urban High Schools, Quick Guides to Inclusion, Restructuring for a Caring and Effective Education, and Creativity and Collaborative Learning.
