Aliki

Aliki, the pen name of Aliki Liacouras Brandenberg, is an American author and illustrator of children’s books, born on September 3, 1929. She grew up in a Greek family in Philadelphia, studied at the Philadelphia College of Art, and began her career in advertising art before moving into children’s publishing.

Her books include _A Weed Is a Flower: The Life of George Washington Carver_ and _Marianthe’s Story: Painted Words and Spoken Memories_ in both hardcover and paperback editions. Sources also describe her as the author and illustrator of more than fifty children’s books, with a career spanning several decades.
