Allison L. Bruhn

Allison L. Bruhn, PhD, is a Professor of Special Education at the University of Iowa and Executive Director of the Scanlan Center for School Mental Health. A former middle school teacher and graduate of Vanderbilt University, her work centers on designing, implementing, and evaluating social, emotional, and behavioral interventions and assessments to improve outcomes for K–12 students and the educators who serve them. She also serves as an associate editor for the journals Behavioral Disorders and Journal of Positive Behavior Interventions.

Bruhn is coauthor of Managing Challenging Behaviors in Schools: Research-Based Strategies That Work, a practical resource on prevention and intervention strategies for problem behavior in K–12 classrooms. Her scholarship includes research on functional assessment–based interventions, treatment integrity in schoolwide positive behavior supports, and motivation, as well as studies of social skills instruction, goal-setting interventions, and function-based classroom interventions for students with challenging behavior.
