Ally Burguieres is a New Orleans–based visual artist, designer, inventor, and author whose work is strongly influenced by her lifelong commitment to animal welfare and conservation. She owns and operates Gallery Burguieres and the Cocoally boutiques in the New Orleans French Quarter and Garden District, where she showcases her distinctive animal-centric artwork and popular décor collections such as The Notebook Series. Her projects include public art pieces like the Bead Dogs benefitting the Louisiana SPCA and the trademarked Wish Dog, a handmade trinket designed to “burn wishes” with a smoke-blowing effect.
Burguieres holds a bachelor’s degree in literature, a master’s degree in journalism, a second master’s degree in communications, and a PhD focused on art and media in everyday life, and she has taught Media Arts at Tulane University. Her writing and multimedia work have appeared in outlets such as The Washington Post and National Geographic Traveler. An advocate and rehabilitator for opossums and other animals, she channels her research-driven interest in these misunderstood creatures into her books, including When in Doubt, Play Dead: Life Advice from an Unexpected Source, which offers life lessons inspired by an opossum.
