Amanda Jansen
Amanda Jansen is a Distinguished Professor in Teacher Education in the School of Education at the University of Delaware, where she specializes in mathematics education. Her research focuses on students’ motivation and engagement in mathematics classrooms and on how teachers learn from reflecting on their own practice. Earlier in her career, she taught middle school mathematics in Mesa, Arizona, and she later earned a PhD in educational psychology from Michigan State University.
As a mathematics teacher educator, Jansen works with both in-service K–12 teachers and prospective elementary and middle school teachers, helping them design more engaging mathematics instruction. She is the author of Rough Draft Math: Revising to Learn, published in 2020, which presents an instructional approach in which students share and revise in-progress mathematical ideas to support deeper understanding, collaboration, and confidence.
