Amelia Nagoski, DMA, is a choral conductor, music professor, and co-author of the New York Times bestseller Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle, written with her identical twin sister, Emily Nagoski, PhD. She holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in conducting from the University of Connecticut, a Master of Music in choral conducting from Westminster Choir College, and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Delaware. Nagoski has served as an assistant/associate professor and coordinator of music at Western New England University, where she focuses on choral conducting and music education.
In addition to her academic work, Nagoski specializes in conducting as embodied cognition, exploring the relationship between musicians’ brain–body experience and artistic performance. She regularly presents educational sessions for professional musicians on topics such as communications science, psychological research, and embodied wellness for conductors, including the workshop “Beyond Burnout Prevention: Embodied Wellness for Conductors.” Her teaching, performing, and writing emphasize how music and art can help people understand themselves and each other, and her work on burnout applies these insights to the science of stress and wellbeing.
