Amy Ludwig VanDerwater
Amy Ludwig VanDerwater is a writer, teacher, and former fifth-grade classroom teacher living in Holland, New York. She earned her master’s degree at Teachers College, Columbia University, where she also worked with the Reading and Writing Project, and she has taught writing for more than 20 years.
She is the author of several books for children and teachers, including Poems Are Teachers: How Studying Poetry Strengthens Writing in All Genres, Forest Has a Song, Every Day Birds, Read! Read! Read!, With My Hands, Write! Write! Write!, If This Bird Had Pockets: A Poem in Your Pocket Day Celebration, That Missing Feeling, and The Sound of Kindness. Her poems also appear in many anthologies, and she is known for her classroom blogs The Poem Farm and Sharing Our Notebooks.
