Andrea Negrete Cheng

Andrea Negrete Cheng is a high school mathematics teacher and author with more than ten years of classroom experience in grades 9–12. She has taught at a high school in Oakland serving recently arrived immigrants from over 35 countries and currently teaches at a large public high school in Union City in the San Francisco Bay Area. The daughter of parents who emigrated from Mexico, she credits her family’s example with shaping her commitment to education and equity.

Negrete Cheng earned a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, a teaching credential, and a Master’s degree in math education from the University of California, Berkeley. She is a co-author of Answers to Your Biggest Questions About Teaching Secondary Math: Five to Thrive (Corwin Mathematics Series), written with Frederick L. Dillon, Ayanna D. Perry, and Jennifer Outzs. Her professional work includes presenting at the Teachers for Social Justice Conference on preparing students for college‑ready mathematics through dual enrollment.
