Angela Chan Turrou

Angela Chan Turrou is a researcher, senior/clinical faculty member, and teacher educator at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Graduate School of Education and Information Studies. Her work focuses on children’s mathematical thinking, classroom practice, student engagement, and teacher learning in early childhood and elementary school settings, and she supports both preservice and inservice teachers as well as teacher candidates and first-year teachers earning their master’s degrees.

She is a coauthor of Young Children’s Mathematics: Cognitively Guided Instruction in Early Childhood Education (with Thomas P. Carpenter, Megan L. Franke, Nicholas C. Johnson, and Anita A. Wager) and Choral Counting & Counting Collections: Transforming the PreK–5 Math Classroom (with Megan L. Franke and Elham Kazemi). In addition, she has authored work on choral counting and related instructional routines grounded in Cognitively Guided Instruction research.
