Angela Joy

Angela Joy was born and raised in Minneapolis and later moved to Southern California. Before becoming a children’s author, she attended New York University and Spelman College and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota; she also worked as a background vocalist in television and movie soundtracks.

Joy is the author of Black Is a Rainbow Color (illustrated by Ekua Holmes and published by Roaring Brook Press), her first book, and her later works include A Hero Like Me, Ordinary Days: The Seeds, Sound, and City that Grew Prince Rogers Nelson, and Choosing Brave: How Mamie Till-Mobley and Emmett Till Sparked the Civil Rights Movement.
