Anna Forrester is a picture book author and amateur naturalist whose debut title, Bat Count: A Citizen Science Story (Arbordale, 2017), follows a family participating in a bat-monitoring citizen science project inspired by counts she conducts with family and friends at a farm in central Pennsylvania. The book has received multiple honors, including the 2018 Giverny Award, selection as an Outstanding Science Trade Book for Students K–12 by the National Science Teachers Association and the Children’s Book Council, inclusion on the CCBC Choices 2018 list, and the 2018–19 Keystone to Reading Book Award.
Based in the Philadelphia area, Forrester draws inspiration from “quirks and curiosities” in the natural world and has described herself as a writer, adventurer, and science enthusiast. When she is not writing or reading, she creates gardens and green play spaces for city children and enjoys biking, paddling, and making things—from soups to “bug hotels” to giant paper snowflakes.
