Anne Upczak Garcia

Anne Upczak Garcia is a writer, educator, and former bilingual/ESL teacher based in Colorado. She earned a Master of Education in ESL/Bilingual Education from the University of Colorado Boulder and taught bilingual/ESL students in the Boulder Valley School District for many years. Her background in English language learning and biliteracy has informed both her classroom work and her writing.

She is the coauthor of Scaffolding The Comprehension Toolkit for English Language Learners: Previews and Extensions to Support Content Comprehension and Scaffolding The Primary Comprehension Toolkit for English Language Learners: Previews and Extensions to Support Content Comprehension, and she coauthored Ladybugs, Tornadoes, and Swirling Galaxies: English Language Learners Discover Their World Through Inquiry with Brad Buhrow. She has also written fiction, including Among Walkers, and has described herself as writing fiction, travel articles, and other work as part of her broader writing practice.
