Antoinette Portis

Antoinette Portis is an American author and illustrator of children’s books. She earned a BFA from UCLA’s School of Fine Arts and worked for years in design and advertising, including as a creative director and vice president at Disney before turning to picture books. Her debut, Not a Box, became a New York Times best-selling picture book and received a Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor; she later followed it with Not a Stick and other children’s titles, including A Penguin Story and Hey, Water!.

Portis has said she was inspired to write and illustrate picture books by a sixth-grade dream, and she lives in Southern California.
