April McMurtrey

April McMurtrey is a professional reading specialist and dyslexia specialist, and the developer and founder of the Learn Reading program, a comprehensive reading curriculum designed for emerging, struggling, adult, and dyslexic learners. She works as a dyslexia therapist, educator, and consultant, providing dyslexia screenings and literacy instruction for learners of various ages, and has focused on helping struggling and dyslexic students for over 30 years.

McMurtrey is the author of Is It Dyslexia? An At-Home Guide for Screening and Supporting Children Who Struggle to Read, in which she offers a practical framework and step-by-step processes for screening readers for dyslexia and supporting them with appropriate instruction and accommodations. She also appears as a speaker, including TEDx engagements, on topics related to dyslexia and literacy, and continues to advocate for accessible, effective reading instruction for all learners.
