Ariel Tichnor-Wagner

Ariel Tichnor-Wagner is an educator, researcher, and senior lecturer in the Educational Policy Studies program at Boston University’s Wheelock College of Education & Human Development, where she also serves as program director and affiliated faculty with the Wheelock Educational Policy Center. Her research focuses on education policy and politics, including school improvement, policy and program implementation, civics and global citizenship education, continuous improvement research, and teacher policy. She began her career as a public elementary school teacher in a high-poverty district in Phoenix, Arizona, working primarily with English language learners.

Tichnor-Wagner earned a BA in American History from the University of Pennsylvania, an MEd in Elementary Education from Arizona State University, and a PhD in Education Policy, Leadership, and School Improvement from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is the author of Becoming a Globally Competent School Leader and coauthor of Becoming a Globally Competent Teacher, and has previously served as a senior fellow of global competence at ASCD, collaborating with national and international organizations such as the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. State Department, the OECD, and the NEA Foundation on global competence and educational change.
