Audrey Watters

Audrey Watters is an independent scholar and writer whose work focuses on the history and politics of education technology. She created the education-technology blog Hack Education and writes the Second Breakfast newsletter. Watters was a Spencer Education Journalism Fellow at Columbia University during the 2017–2018 academic year.

Watters is the author of Teaching Machines: The History of Personalized Learning (MIT Press, 2021), a history of pre-digital educational technology and the development of personalized learning. Her other published works include The Monsters of Education Technology, The Revenge of the Monsters of Education Technology, The Curse of the Monsters of Education Technology, The Monsters of Education Technology 4, and Claim Your Domain.
