Ayanna D. Perry

Ayanna D. Perry is a mathematics educator and author whose work focuses on supporting secondary mathematics and science teachers and advancing educational equity. She serves in a leadership role at the Knowles Teacher Initiative, where she has worked as Associate Director of the Teaching Fellows Program and mentors early-career mathematics and science teachers. She began her career as a high school mathematics teacher in North Carolina and has also taught mathematics education courses at the college level.

Perry holds a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Shaw University and a Master of Science in mathematics from North Carolina Central University, both Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and a PhD in mathematics education from North Carolina State University. She is a co-author of Answers to Your Biggest Questions About Teaching Secondary Math: Five to Thrive and Answers to Your Biggest Questions About Teaching Secondary Science: Five to Thrive, part of Corwin’s Five to Thrive series for secondary teachers. Her scholarship and professional writing include blogs on equity for the Knowles Teacher Initiative and articles on technology use and equity in mathematics classrooms, and she is an active member of several professional organizations, including the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics.
