Barbara Lehman

Barbara Lehman is a Chicago-born author and illustrator of children’s books who grew up in New Jersey and studied at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, where she earned a B.F.A. in communication design/illustration. She has worked as a full-time illustrator and has described her interest in “commercial art” as a way to reach children through books.

Her books include Rainstorm and The Red Book, and The Red Book received a Caldecott Honor in 2005. Sources also note that she has illustrated many children’s books and that her work has appeared in exhibitions at institutions including The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, The Society of Illustrators, and the New York Public Library.
