Barbara Mariconda

Barbara Mariconda is an award‑winning children’s author and educator whose picture book Sort It Out! (Clasifícalo!), illustrated by Sherry Rogers, was recognized as a 2009 IRA/CBC Children’s Choice title and included on the 2009 Bank Street Best Children’s Books of the Year list. An experienced K–6 teacher, mentor teacher, and adjunct professor of Children’s Literature and Process Writing, she has also written the picture book Ten for Me, the middle‑grade mystery Turn the Cup Around (nominated for an Edgar Allan Poe Award), and numerous workbooks, beginning readers, and professional books for teachers.

Mariconda has created a wide range of musicals, songs, and books, and has worked with Children’s Television Workshop and Cherry Lane Music on the creative staff of Sesame Street Music Magazine. She frequently speaks on writing for and with children and provides professional development for teachers across the United States, and is a partner and cofounder of the educational seminar and consulting firm Empowering Writers, LLC, through which she has trained large numbers of teachers in writing instruction.
