Barry M. Prizant

Barry M. Prizant, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, is a speech-language pathologist and one of the world’s leading authorities on autism and related neurodevelopmental conditions. He is the coauthor of The SCERTS Model: A Comprehensive Educational Approach for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, a framework that integrates developmental, relationship-based, and skill-based approaches to improve social communication, emotional regulation, and transactional support for individuals on the autism spectrum and their families.

Prizant has more than five decades of experience as a clinical scholar, researcher, consultant, and program developer for children and adults on the autism spectrum and their families. He has served as a tenured Professor of Communication Disorders at Southern Illinois University and Emerson College, Boston, and since 2022 has been an Adjunct Professor in the Communicative Disorders Department at the University of Rhode Island. A certified speech-language pathologist holding the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP), he directs Childhood Communication Services, a private practice, and is a visiting scholar at Brown University. Prizant is also the author of the widely acclaimed book Uniquely Human: A Different Way of Seeing Autism, which has been published in multiple languages and recognized internationally for its contribution to understanding autism.
