Belinda Bustos Flores

Belinda Bustos Flores, Ph.D., is a professor emerita of bicultural-bilingual studies and former associate dean for strategic partnerships, preparation, and growth in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Her research focuses on teacher personal and professional identity and beliefs, including self-concept, ethnic identity, efficacy, recruitment and retention, high-stakes testing, and family cultural knowledge. She earned a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with specializations in Multilingual Studies and Educational Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, and holds an M.A. in Bicultural-Bilingual Education and a B.A. in Early Childhood and Elementary Education with a specialization in bilingual education from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Flores is the founder and director of the nationally recognized, award-winning Academy for Teacher Excellence Research Center, which advances teacher recruitment, preparation, and support for linguistically and culturally diverse communities. She has published numerous articles and books on bilingual and multicultural teacher education and is co-editor of Multicultural Literature for Latino Bilingual Children: Their Words, Their Worlds, Second Edition. Her contributions have been honored with multiple awards, including recognition from the AERA Hispanic Research Issues SIG (2015), the AERA Bilingual Research SIG Lifetime Achievement Award (201
