Bennie Kara

Bennie Kara is a UK-based educator, consultant and author specialising in diversity, equity and inclusion in school curricula. She has over 20 years’ experience in schools as a teacher and leader, including serving as a deputy headteacher in the East Midlands, where she has focused on curriculum, teaching and learning. Kara is the co-founder of Diverse Educators (#DiverseEd), a social enterprise and network that supports schools to develop more diverse and inclusive practice, and she now works nationally as a speaker, trainer and curriculum consultant.

Kara is the author of A Little Guide for Teachers: Diversity in Schools, part of SAGE’s Corwin “Little Guide” series, which provides practical starting points for teachers and school leaders to create curricula that reflect and value diverse identities. Her work on this book received the inaugural SAGE Social Justice Book Award. She is also co-editor of Diverse Educators: A Manifesto and author of The Diverse Curriculum, a guide for educators drawing on her classroom and leadership experience to help schools embed diversity across subjects. In addition to her books, Kara writes and speaks widely on diversity in the curriculum, contributing to outlets such as Schools Week, the Chartered College of Teaching’s Education Exchange, and various podcasts and training programmes for school leaders.
