Beth Dankert Sattes
Beth Dankert Sattes is an educator, consultant, and co-author known for her work on effective questioning and student engagement in K–12 classrooms. She consults through her business, Enthused Learning, working with service centers, districts, schools, and state education departments across the eastern and southern United States to improve classroom questioning practices and facilitate adult learning. She began her career in education as an elementary special education teacher and later worked as a parent educator for preschool children with behavior disorders. Sattes holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Vanderbilt University and a master’s degree in early childhood special education from Peabody College.
Sattes is co-developer, with Jackie Acree Walsh, of Questioning and Understanding to Improve Learning and Thinking (QUILT), a nationally validated professional development program focused on effective questioning. Together they have co-authored multiple books on quality questioning, including Quality Questioning: Research-Based Practice to Engage Every Learner, Leading Through Quality Questioning: Creating Capacity, Commitment, and Community, and Thinking Through Quality Questioning: Deepening Student Engagement. She and Walsh have also co-authored Inside School Improvement and co-presented the Video Journal in Education series Questioning to Stimulate Thinking, and they have trained hundreds of administrators and teachers nationwide in effective questioning practices.
