Bibinaz Pirayesh
Dr. Bibinaz (Bibi) Pirayesh is an educational therapist, learning specialist, and author whose work centers on neurodiversity, learning disability, and educational justice. She is the founder of One of One Kids, a Los Angeles–based practice serving K–12 students with a wide range of learning needs, including dyslexia, ADHD, autism, spectrum and executive functioning challenges. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and Education from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in Developmental Psychology in Education from Columbia University, where she focused on children’s mathematical thinking and cognitive neuroscience. She later completed a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership for Social Justice at Loyola Marymount University, where her scholarship examined learning disability as a social justice issue.
Pirayesh teaches in higher education, including roles with UCSC Silicon Valley Extension’s Educational Therapy program and Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology. She is a sought-after speaker and community advocate, known for launching the Difference Is Not Deficit Project in 2020 to promote understanding of learning disability as a social justice concern. Her book, Difference Is Not Deficit: A Community Vision for Special Education, invites educators and communities to reimagine how schools understand and respond to neurodiverse learners.
