Brian M. Stack

Brian M. Stack is a New Hampshire educator and superintendent of the Fremont School District, formerly a longtime principal of Sanborn Regional High School in Kingston, New Hampshire. He specializes in competency-based education and professional learning communities (PLCs), and his high school has been recognized nationally as a model PLC and competency-based school. In 2017, he was named the New Hampshire High School Principal of the Year by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Stack is a Solution Tree author and consultant focused on developing and sustaining competency-based learning systems for all students. He coauthored Breaking With Tradition: The Shift to Competency-Based Learning in PLCs at Work with Jonathan G. Vander Els, published by Solution Tree Press in 2017, and also coauthored Unpacking the Competency-Based Classroom: Equitable, Individualized Learning in a PLC at Work®. He serves as an expert for Understood.org, a division of the National Center for Learning Disabilities, and has contributed widely to resources and presentations on grading, assessment, and student support in competency-based systems.
