Brook Sawyer

L. Brook Sawyer is an educational psychologist, teacher educator, and author who serves as a professor and Associate Dean for Graduate Studies in the College of Education at Lehigh University. Her research focuses on interventions to support the language and literacy development of young children who are multilingual learners or have disabilities, as well as on strengthening collaborative relationships between parents and educators. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia, an M.S.Ed. from the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.S.Ed. from the University of Delaware.

Sawyer is coauthor, with Gianna Cassetta, of Classroom Management Matters: The Social-Emotional Learning Approach Children Deserve (Heinemann, 2015) and No More Taking Away Recess and Other Problematic Discipline Practices (NOT THIS, BUT THAT) (Heinemann, 2013), which connect classroom management and discipline to social–emotional learning and research-informed practice. In addition to her practitioner-oriented books, she has published numerous scholarly works on classroom language environments, teachers’ self-efficacy, and academic socialization for young Black and Latino children.
