Carl Memling

Carl Memling (born Carl Cohen on January 18, 1918; died October 18, 1969, in Queens, New York) was an American writer best known for his numerous children’s books, including several licensed character titles. He legally changed his name to Carl Memling in 1954 and wrote for a young audience throughout his career.

Memling is the author of the classic Little Golden Book Our Flag, first published in 1960 and later reissued in various formats. His work also includes adaptations and character-based stories such as The Amazing Adventures of Dennis the Menace, a children’s storybook drawn from scripts for the 1959 television series. Bibliographic listings attribute additional children’s titles to him in multiple languages and markets, underscoring his focus on accessible, engaging stories for young readers.
