Caron Levis

Caron Levis is a New York City–based author, educator, and licensed social worker whose picture books include May I Have a Word?, Ida, Always, This Way, Charlie, Feathers Together, Mighty Muddy Us, Stop That Yawn!, Mama’s Work Shoes, and Stuck with the Blooz. Her “Feeling-Friends” books with illustrator Charles Santoso, including Ida, Always, have received wide acclaim; Ida, Always was described by The New York Times Book Review as “an example of children’s books at their best,” and it received the Children’s Literature Centre Book Award in 2018.

Levis holds an MFA in creative writing and an LMSW, and she teaches writing for children and young adults at The New School, where she has served as chair or coordinator of the Writing for Children/YA MFA program, and also teaches at NYU. Born and raised in New York City, she has over two decades of experience in classrooms, using drama and writing to support students’ social, emotional, and literacy skills, and has led loss and bereavement groups for young people.
