Carsten Herrmann-Pillath

Carsten Herrmann-Pillath is a German economist, sinologist, and philosopher of economics. He is Professor and Permanent Fellow at the Max Weber Centre for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies at the University of Erfurt, where his research spans economics, philosophy, institutional change, economic development, international economics, and Chinese studies. He previously held professorships at Duisburg University, Witten/Herdecke University, and Frankfurt School of Finance & Management.

Herrmann-Pillath is a co-author of Open Knowledge Institutions: Reinventing Universities (MIT Press, 2021). His other books include Foundations of Economic Evolution: A Treatise on the Natural Philosophy of Economics and China’s Economic Culture: The Ritual Order of State and Markets.
