Carver A. Mead is an electrical engineer, computer scientist, and professor emeritus at the California Institute of Technology. He is known for pioneering work in very-large-scale integrated-circuit design and neural-network hardware. His books include Analog VLSI and Neural Systems, Collective Electrodynamics: Quantum Foundations of Electromagnetism, and Analog VLSI: Circuits and Principles.
Mead contributed the foreword to Sanjoy Mahajan’s Street-Fighting Mathematics: The Art of Educated Guessing and Opportunistic Problem Solving, published by MIT Press in 2010.
