Cathy A. Toll

Cathy A. Toll, PhD, is an educational coaching and literacy expert who has served as a university faculty member, consultant, and school leader focused on teacher professional learning and school change. She has taught at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, and has worked as a reading specialist, curriculum coordinator, principal, director of literacy research and development, grant director, and state department of education consultant. She earned her doctorate from Pennsylvania State University with a focus on curriculum and instruction, language and literacy education, and teacher professional growth.

Toll is the author of Educational Coaching: A Partnership for Problem Solving, published by ASCD in 2018, which elaborates a problem-solving model for job-embedded professional learning between educational coaches and teachers. She has written multiple books and numerous journal articles on educational and literacy coaching, including The Literacy Coach’s Survival Guide: Essential Questions and Practical Answers (1st and 2nd editions), The Literacy Coach’s Desk Reference, Lenses on Literacy Coaching, and Learnership: Invest in Teachers, Focus on Learning, and Put Test Scores in Perspective.
