Cathy Park Hong

Cathy Park Hong is a Korean American poet, essayist, and professor born in Los Angeles in 1976 and raised in a bilingual household. She studied at Oberlin College and earned an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. She is the author of three poetry collections—Translating Mo’um (2002), Dance Dance Revolution (2007), and Engine Empire (2012)—as well as Minor Feelings: An Asian American Reckoning (2020), a collection of essays that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in General Nonfiction and won the National Book Critics Circle Award for autobiography.

Hong has taught at Rutgers University–Newark and has also served as poetry editor of The New Republic. Her work has been recognized with honors including a Guggenheim Fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, and the Windham-Campbell Literature Prize.
