Cati de los Ríos

Cati V. de los Ríos is an Associate Professor of Language, Literacy, and Culture at the University of California, Berkeley School of Education, where she also serves as Interim Director of Berkeley’s Teacher Education Program (BTEP). She previously held a faculty position as Assistant Professor of Language, Literacy, and Culture at the University of California, Davis School of Education. Her research examines the literacy and language practices of immigrant and bi/multilingual youth, with particular attention to adolescent translingual literacies, bilingual youths’ digital media practices, ethnic studies, and teacher education, and has been supported by the National Academy of Education/Spencer Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and the National Council of Teachers of English. She earned her Ph.D. in English Education from Teachers College, Columbia University in 2017 and is a former school teacher in California and Massachusetts.

De los Ríos is co-editor of Critical English Education: Enduring Voices, New Perspectives (National Council of Teachers of English), alongside Ernest Morrell, Nicole Mirra, Antero Garcia, and Jamila Lyiscott. Her scholarship has appeared in leading journals including Harvard Educational Review, Reading Research Quarterly, Journal of Literacy Research, Research in the Teaching of English, Anthropology & Education Quarterly, and English Journal.
