Cecilia M Espinosa
Cecilia M. Espinosa is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Early Childhood/Childhood Education in the School of Education at Lehman College, CUNY, in the Bronx, New York. She was born in Quito, Ecuador and earned her Ph.D. from Arizona State University. Her work focuses on literacy, multilingual education, and the language practices of emergent bilingual children.
Espinosa is co-author of Rooted in Strength: Using Translanguaging to Grow Multilingual Readers and Writers (Scholastic, 2021), written with Laura Ascenzi-Moreno, which offers a classroom-based framework for supporting multilingual readers and writers through translanguaging pedagogy. She has also contributed scholarly work on translanguaging and writing, including a chapter on building on students’ linguistic strengths in 21st-century classrooms.
