Chase Nordengren is a principal research lead for effective instructional strategies at NWEA and a research scientist whose work focuses on how professional learning impacts teachers and their students. He specializes in student goal setting, instructional improvement, and high-growth classrooms, working with scholars and practitioners to translate theory into actionable practices that support academic recovery and increased student agency.
Nordengren is the author of Step Into Student Goal Setting: A Path to Growth, Motivation, and Agency, a joint publication of Corwin and NWEA that connects research, case studies, and practical strategies to help teachers use goal setting to promote growth, motivation, and student agency. He has also authored work such as the white paper The Transformative Ten: Instructional Strategies Learned from High-Growth Schools and co‑authored articles including “Goal-setting practices that support a learning culture” and “Theory of action: The care and feeding of your mission.”
