Chepina Rumsey
Chepina Rumsey, PhD, is an associate professor of mathematics education at the University of Northern Iowa, where she prepares future elementary and early childhood teachers to teach mathematics. Her research focuses on mathematical argumentation and elementary students’ mathematical learning through exploration, curiosity, and wonder.
She is a former elementary school teacher and has led professional development for K–5 teachers, presented at state, national, and international conferences, and consulted on curriculum development. Rumsey received bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and elementary education from Keene State College, a master’s degree in mathematics from Illinois State University, and a doctorate in mathematics education from Illinois State University. Her published work includes Reigniting Math Curiosity With Learners in Grades 3–5 and the earlier Nurturing Math Curiosity With Learners in Grades K–2.
