Cheryl Tyler
Cheryl Tyler is an educator and author focused on early childhood and elementary teaching and learning. She is coauthor of Purposeful Play: A Teacher’s Guide to Igniting Deep and Joyful Learning Across the Day, written with Kristine Mraz and Alison Porcelli, which presents research-informed, practical strategies for using play as a vehicle for rigorous, standards-based learning across the school day.
Tyler has worked extensively in New York City schools as a kindergarten teacher, staff developer, consultant, and as principal of PS 277 in the South Bronx. She is currently director of Reading Rescue at the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, supporting intensive literacy intervention in high-need schools. In addition to Purposeful Play, she is also coauthor, with Alison Porcelli, of A Quick Guide to Boosting English Acquisition in Choice Time, K–2.
