Chris Luzniak

Chris Luzniak is a mathematics educator, author, and consultant known for integrating debate into math classrooms. He has taught middle and high school mathematics for nearly two decades, beginning in New York City public schools, where he also founded and coached a Speech and Debate team. He later served as a math teacher and mathematics department chair at The Archer School for Girls in Los Angeles and, more recently, as a mathematics teacher at Columbus Academy in Ohio. Luzniak holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Baldwin Wallace University, a Master of Science in mathematics from the University of Connecticut, and a Master of Education in secondary mathematics from New York University.

Luzniak is the author of Up for Debate!: Exploring Math Through Argument, published by Stenhouse, in which he shares stories, examples, and routines for building classroom cultures where students argue, explain, and critique mathematical ideas. In addition to his writing, he works internationally as a math consultant and is the host of the DebateMath Podcast, through which he helps teachers develop discussion and debate structures for math and STEM classrooms.
