Author
Chris Van Allsburg is an American author and illustrator of children’s books, born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1949. He studied sculpture at the University of Michigan and the Rhode Island School of Design, and his first book, The Garden of Abdul Gasazi, earned a Caldecott Honor. He later won the Caldecott Medal for Jumanji and The Polar Express.
His other notable picture books include Ben’s Dream, The Stranger, Two Bad Ants, The Sweetest Fig (1993), Zathura, and Probuditi!. Van Allsburg’s work is known for blending realism with fantasy, and The Sweetest Fig is among his best-known titles.
