Chronicle Books is an independent San Francisco–based publisher founded in 1967 by Phelps Dewey, then an executive at Chronicle Publishing Company, publisher of the San Francisco Chronicle. Over more than five decades, Chronicle Books has developed a distinctive list of award‑winning titles across design, art, photography, food, lifestyle, pop culture, and children’s books, as well as journals and gift products. The company is known for its strong emphasis on visual design and innovative formats.

As a creator of book and gift concepts, Chronicle Books is credited as the author of numerous guided journals and stationery products, including Unwind Every Day: A Journal, a prompt‑based journal designed to help users relax and recharge through daily mindfulness activities.
