Claudia Guadalupe Martínez is an American author of children’s and young adult books who grew up in El Paso, Texas and now lives and works in Illinois/Chicago. She has said that learning to read from the subtitles of old westerns with her father helped inspire her writing, and her work often reflects the experience of growing up between borders.
Her published books include The Smell of Old Lady Perfume (2008), Pig Park (2014), Not a Bean (2019), Spirit Untamed: The Movie Novel (2021), Still Dreaming (2022), and Not a Monster (2023). Her books have earned recognition including two Texas Institute of Letters Best Young Adult Book Awards, a Paterson Prize for Books for Young People, Américas Award commendations, and Library Guild Awards.
