Connie M. Moss

Connie M. Moss, EdD, is an associate professor and program director in the Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership in the School of Education at Duquesne University, where she also directs the Center for Advancing the Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL). Before joining the Duquesne faculty, she spent 25 years as a K–12 public school educator, including 17 years teaching in early childhood, elementary, and middle school classrooms, and later serving as an educational leader for multidistrict, regional, and statewide initiatives in curriculum and assessment. She has received multiple teaching awards, including the Duquesne University Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching, and has been an invited speaker and presenter in more than 700 school districts, 100 universities and colleges, and numerous educational associations and organizations.

Moss is widely recognized for her work on formative assessment, classroom assessment, educational leadership, and evidence-based decision making. She is coauthor, with Susan M. Brookhart, of Advancing Formative Assessment in Every Classroom: A Guide for Instructional Leaders (including its second edition) and Formative Classroom Walkthroughs: How Principals and Teachers Collaborate to Raise Student Achievement, as well as Learning Targets: Helping Students Aim for Understanding in Today’s Lesson.
