Courtney Koestler

Courtney Koestler is a mathematics educator and researcher whose work focuses on equity, diversity, social justice, and critical pedagogies in early childhood and elementary mathematics education. She is the Director of the OHIO Center for Equity in Mathematics and Science and an associate professor in the Department of Teacher Education in the Patton College of Education at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Koestler holds a B.S. in Elementary Education (concentration in mathematics) from Ohio University, an M.A. in New Professional Studies: Teaching from George Mason University, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction (mathematics education) from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Koestler is a coauthor of Early Elementary Mathematics Lessons to Explore, Understand, and Respond to Social Injustice (Corwin Mathematics Series), which offers standards-based PK–2 mathematics lessons designed to help children investigate topics such as fairness, representation, inequality, and environmental justice through critical, real‑world problem solving. Her professional experience includes work as a classroom teacher in multiple grade levels, mathematics coach, and university-based teacher educator, and she writes and collaborates extensively on using mathematics to help young learners explore, understand, and respond to social injustice.
