Cristina Sanz

Cristina Sanz is a Professor of Spanish and Linguistics at Georgetown University, where she directs the Intensive and School of Foreign Service Spanish Programs, the Barcelona Summer Study Abroad Program, and coordinates the Catalan Lectureship. She is a specialist in bilingualism, multilingualism, and second language acquisition across the lifespan, and has published over ninety scholarly works in venues such as Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, PLoS ONE, Bilingualism: Language and Cognition, Language Learning, and Applied Psycholinguistics. Her edited volume Mind and Context in Adult Second Language Acquisition received the Modern Language Association’s Kenneth W. Mildenberger Prize in 2006.

Sanz is one of the co-authors of Introducción a la lingüística hispánica (Cambridge University Press), contributing in particular a chapter on the teaching and learning of Spanish. She holds a Licenciatura from the University of Barcelona and a Ph.D. in Spanish Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, and has been recognized with awards including Georgetown University’s President’s Award for Distinguished Scholar-Teachers and the AAUSC Innovation in Language Program Direction Award for Inclusion and Social Justice.
