Cyndy Scheibe

Cyndy Scheibe is a professor of psychology at Ithaca College and cofounder and executive director of Project Look Sharp, a media literacy initiative that develops curriculum materials and professional development to help educators integrate media literacy and inquiry-based learning across K–12 and higher education. At Ithaca College she teaches courses in child and adolescent development, media literacy, and media effects, and coordinates the college’s interdisciplinary media literacy minor. She holds a master’s degree in communications and a PhD in developmental psychology from Cornell University, and has directed the Center for Research on the Effects of Television, which she originally founded at Cornell and later led at Ithaca College.

Scheibe is a founding board member of the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE) and coauthor of NAMLE’s Core Principles of Media Literacy Education. In addition to Teaching Students to Decode the World: Media Literacy and Critical Thinking Across the Curriculum (coauthored with Chris Sperry), she coauthored The Teacher’s Guide to Media Literacy: Critical Thinking in a Multimedia World with Faith Rogow, a widely cited resource for educators seeking to integrate media literacy into any subject area.
