Daniel Nayeri

Daniel Nayeri is an Iranian-American author born in Iran who spent part of his childhood as a refugee before immigrating to Oklahoma with his family at age seven or eight, depending on the source. He is the author of Everything Sad Is Untrue (A True Story), an autobiographical novel published in 2020 that draws on his own life, and it received major honors including the Michael L. Printz Award, the Christopher Award, and the Middle East Book Award.

Nayeri has also written The Many Assassinations of Samir, the Seller of Dreams, which received a Newbery Honor. Sources also identify him as having worked in publishing, including roles as a literary agent, editor, and publisher, and as a former publisher of Macmillan’s Odd Dot imprint.
